Overview

Are you ready to gain valuable experience, build your network, and have fun while doing it? At Ajinomoto Health & Nutrition North America, we are pioneering the science of well-being through the power of amino acids and our Research &
Development (R&D) team is looking for creative and innovative talent to join us for a ten-week summer internship!


Working alongside members of our Application’s Development team, you will work on fast-paced projects to solve the challenges of some of the biggest food companies in the industry, by contributing a fresh perspective to the development of innovative solutions for Ajinomoto’s customers. You will be responsible for providing technical support to new applications development, customer projects, sample preparation, and sensory evaluation across our diverse portfolio of products.

 

You will have the opportunity to work independently and as a team, engage with customers, attend trade shows, and gain experience at a global company that has been a leader in the food industry for more than 100 years.


This is an in-person internship, located in our state-of-the-art corporate headquarters, kitchen and laboratory in Itasca, IL.

Qualifications

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Completed Junior-level or higher Bachelor of Science, or master's student in foods science or adjacent
    fields such as biology, chemistry, chemical engineering, bioengineering, or culinology.
  • 1-2 years laboratory experience
  • A passion to learn and grow within the food industry; comfort in a laboratory/kitchen setting.
  • Working knowledge of food science, food manufacturing, or quality assurance principles is a plus.
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational skills.
  • Experience with Excel, Word, and other applications such as Genesis.
  • Initiative and ability to work as part of a high-level team while working independently.
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage time effectively to meet deadlines and adjust quickly to changes in priorities.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements

OCCUPATIONAL DEMANDS:

  • Must be able to stand for an extended period
  • Must be able to lift 30 pounds
  • Must be safety oriented

Responsibilities

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Clearly indicate each major responsibility that occupies at least 10% or more of the incumbent's time. List duties in order of
    most important to least important. Details may be provided in bullet form to clarify the responsibility.
  • Apply technical expertise in food science to ideate and develop product concepts/prototypes that solve for customer issues
    within the context of our portfolio of ingredient solutions.
  • Contribute to solving ingredient, product, and processing issues.
  • Assist in evaluating and setting up ingredient and food cuttings for sensory evaluations.
  • Document processes, formulas, ingredients and results related to production tests, samples and product evaluations consistent
    with Ajinomoto standard operating procedures.
  • Perform all work in accordance with Ajinomoto GMP, Allergen, and Quality Programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Effectively collaborate with other scientists, culinary, sales, and marketing departments as well as participate in cross
    functional teams as requested.

 

Salary Range

$20.60 - $25.00
