The Electrical & Instrumentation Technician is responsible for the design, implementation, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of electrical, instrumentation, and control systems within the facility. The role supports safe, efficient, and reliable operations of the plant processes and equipment by ensuring electrical and control systems are properly optimized. The E&I Technician serves as a technical expert and works closely with operations, maintenance, and project teams to support plant goals for production, safety, quality, and compliance.
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
• Associate degree in Electrical and Instrumentation Technology, Engineering, or related field required.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience with electrical systems, PLC, motor and motion controls, SCADA systems, device and information networks, sensors, instrumentation equipment for manufacturing is required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Strong understanding of electrical power systems, instrumentation, automation, and process control systems (PLC’s HMI’s sensors, etc).
• Experience with electrical installation and troubleshooting systems up to and including 480V.
• Working knowledge of Allen Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens, and similar control systems.
• Familiar with electrical safety standards (e.g. NFPA 70E, 70B).
• Previous food manufacturing experience preferred.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Must be able to communicate effectively with colleagues and all levels of management.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and lead cross functional collaboration.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Job requires safety awareness and adherence to all safety policies and guidelines. Willing to work overtime and be on-call.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Position requires the ability to stand at times for 3-6 hours per day; sit, walk, bend over, and reach above head without difficulty; minimal lifting or carrying of 50 pounds.
• Able to access all areas of the plant including the roof and areas above equipment.
• Lead troubleshooting, repair, and continuous improvement of electrical & control systems including motors, drives, instrumentation, and PLCs
• Design and implement small to mid-scale control system upgrades or modifications to improve process performance, efficiency, and reliability
• Megger motors and service electrical equipment and panels up to 480V and be able to train maintenance staff to do so as well
• Understands and follows documented operational, maintenance, and sanitation standards in a Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) work environment
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment
• Adhere to all safety requirements, company policies, and procedures
• Collaborate with operations and maintenance teams to develop and maintain preventative maintenance programs for the E&I assets
• Ensure compliance with electrical codes, food safety standards, and corporate safety requirements
• Support capital projects by reviewing designs, overseeing contractors, and ensuring proper equipment integration
• Lead the procurement efforts for all electrical, instrumentation, and control related parts
• Assist with root cause analysis of reoccurring electrical or control related failures
• Participate in energy optimization, downtime reduction, and automation improvement initiatives
• Serve as an internal subject matter expert for control systems and field instrumentation
• Monitor equipment performance and analyze control system data to identify trends or issues
• Optimize control loops (PID tuning) for efficient operation
• Identify and implement energy saving opportunities related to motors, drives, lighting, etc.
• Develop, update, and oversee calibration schedules for all critical process instrumentation
• Provide support during planned shutdowns, production test equipment setup, and equipment commissioning
• Review and improve Standard Maintenance Procedures (SMPs) related to E&I systems
• Maintain accurate and updated electrical one-line diagrams, P&IDs, and logic files
• Coordinate with vendors, integrators, and contractors for E&I related work
• Provide training and mentorship to maintenance techs and operators as needed
• Leads arc flash studies, annual IR scans and remediations, assist with LOTO reviews, and other scheduled electrical & instrumentation maintenance
• Other relevant duties as assigned and trained to complete
