Overview

To ensure the uninterrupted availability of all plant utilities and to maintain optimum performance and compliant operation of the wastewater treatment system in a safe and environmentally conscious manner.

Qualifications

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent with strong reading and mathematical skills required
  • NC Grade I Biological Wastewater certification preferred
  • College coursework or technical school training in science, electrical, mechanical, or instrumentation field preferred
  • Experience in a Utilities or wastewater environment required
  • Strong mechanical aptitude is preferred

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to adapt easily to change and demonstrate the ability to be flexible and cooperative
  • Ability to troubleshoot and suggest corrective actions
  • Must be familiar with current applicable codes and practices for pressure vessels and high-pressure steam operations as well as refrigeration technology
  • Good organizational skills
  • Ability to demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must have a proficient understanding of the chemistry and biological requirements necessary to maintain healthy and active microorganisms with a high leave of BOD Nitrogen in the site’s industrial wastewater pretreatment facility
  • Ability to operate material management equipment
  • Ability to operate manual and automated controls systems to maintain stable operation

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements

WORKING CONDITIONS: Fast paced bio-chemical/chemical manufacturing environment working inside and outside. This position may perform activities in an environment that contains hazardous elements and requires safety awareness and adherence to all safety policies and guidelines. Work must be performed in a safe manner for personal protection and for the protection of other team members. All safety procedures, procedures described in SOPs, BPRs, and support the compliance of applicable ISO standards in all functional areas must be followed, enforced, and strictly complied with.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Position requires the ability to stand and walk around for a minimum of 6 hours per day; bend over, climb, crouch, kneel, reach above head and push and pull less than an hour a day; minimal lifting or carrying of 50 pounds occasionally and repetitive use of hands/arms, legs and eye hand coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Perform boiler operations including fire tube and water tube boilers (Total Capacity of 135,000 #/hr) and air compressor operations (12000 scfm of 35# air) (600 scfm of 90 #air including air dryers for the sites instruments), and cooling tower system operations supplying utilities and process (total tonnage of 6750 tons of tower water)
  • Monitor water treatment systems including softened water and mixed bed deionized water systems
  • Perform chiller operations (2500 tons of Chilled water) to ensure supply to production
  • Perform operations of the site’s industrial wastewater biological treatment system in compliance with the City of Raleigh Industrial Users Permit
  • Manage and maintain the compliance of permits and safety requirements
  • Collect various types of water samples, analyze and record data on lab sheets and company forms
  • Site’s fire system monitoring and operations
  • Maintain security awareness during off hours while being the first point of contact for emergency situations
  • Identify, correct, and report hazards
  • Become properly trained and be able to enter confined spaces including open topped tanks as well as enclosed vessels for inspections and repairs
  • Ensure a clean and hazard-free workspace by performing regular housekeeping.
