Overview

Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Blending department. Plans, coordinates, controls, and reviews activities in the department to support production goals, maintain quality system, ensure safety of employees, and protection of the environment. Leads, motivates, and develops team members.

 

Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM  (This is a salaried-exempt position)

Qualifications

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE:

· High School diploma or equivalent required

· 4-year degree in related field, or 5+ years of production experience in food/feed manufacturing environment is required

· Supervisory experience preferred

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

· High degree of scientific and technical proficiency with a willingness to troubleshoot issues

· Excellent verbal and written communications and computer skills (Microsoft Office, SAP, etc.)

· Ability to transfer technical knowledge to practical applications

· Ability to lead and manage teams, maintaining a high level of morale and discipline

· Required flexibility of work schedule and ability to work overtime as needed (occasional call-ins)

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements

WORKING CONDITIONS: Fast paced bio-chemical/chemical/dry blending manufacturing environment working both in office & plant settings. This position may perform activities in an environment containing hazardous elements and requiring safety awareness and adherence to all safety policies and guidelines. Work must be performed in a safe manner for personal protection and for the protection of other team members. All safety procedures, procedures described in SOPs, JHAs, and support of the ISO standards in all functional areas must be followed, enforced, and strictly complied with.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

· Ability to climb stairs and work on ladders

· Sitting, standing, walking, repetitive use of arms/legs, and eye/hand coordination for 6+ hours a day

· Occasional bending, reaching overhead, crouching, balancing, pushing or pulling

· Occasional lifting of 50 lbs. or less, infrequent need to lift up to 75 lbs.

Responsibilities

Safety, Environmental, & Quality Compliance

  • Promote and enforce safe work habits and policies
  • Utilize experience to make sound decisions while not compromising safety, env. or quality standards
  • Delegate and/or perform audits as required and follow-up on any findings until corrected
  • Attend regularly scheduled training sessions to stay current on all compliance initiatives
  • Assist in SEQ trainings as assigned

Operational Stability and Reliability

  • Directs the day-to-day operations of the blending department
  • Provides for the efficient processing of completed products
  • Plans, prioritizes, and assigns work within the department
  • Sets deadlines to ensure timely completion of work
  • Prepares reports to monitor and manage departmental objectives and KPIs
  • Adheres to budget requirements and works toward obtaining objectives and division goals
  • Responsible for technical problem solving, operational improvements, and efficiency improvements to reduce operating costs
  • Regularly checks, monitors, and records a variety of process operating conditions including unusual process conditions (appearance, sounds, vibrations, odors)
  • Recommends equipment maintenance and schedules preventative maintenance to maintain mixing and packaging productivity and efficiency
  • Oversees documentation and records for the department
  • Reviews batch production records for accuracy
  • Ensures that all procedures described in SOPs are followed in accordance with company policies and GMP requirements
  • Performs periodic review of all SOPs to keep abreast of updates or revisions

Team Leadership and Talent Development

  • Develops annual goals and objectives for department staff
  • Provides regular performance feedback
  • Coaches and trains employees to improve work related skills
  • Continually supports GMP, quality and safety guidelines and conducts training as needed
  • Builds and maintains a positive work environment
  • Holds team members accountable and follows-up with progressive discipline as needed

Continuous Improvement & Collaboration

  • Actively collaborate with other departments within the company including process technicians, SEQ, maintenance, DCS, engineering, and utilities to accomplish tasks/goals
  • Set clear schedules, benchmarks, indexes and track progress. Accurately present the data.
  • Identification, assessment, implementation of process improvements or projects
  • Suggest/implement process improvement, equipment PM, cost down, or best practices
  • Continually strive for increasing processing efficiencies
  • Coordinate with maintenance planners to maintain a clean and safe work environment 

Salary Range

80,000
